Talks/Lectures
UW Tacoma Senior Lecturer Emeritus Linda Dawson is an Aerospace Engineer and a former Aerodynamics Officer in NASA's Houston Control Center who worked on the Space Shuttle program. In her book, The Politics and Perils of Space Exploration, she reflects on the history of space exploration and how it has been directed by political parties and their associated government funding. The “new” U. S. space program is discussed along with the future of space exploration, which has become increasingly dependent on other countries and private enterprise. In this talk she will also give a glimpse of her next book on outer space as the next theater of war and how society has become increasingly dependent on spacecraft in our daily lives and to conduct business. A partnership of the UW Tacoma School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences and the Washington State History Museum, the Scholarly Selections series brings UWT scholars’ work to the public in an informal setting. Talks are held on the Third Thursday of the month when admission to the museum is free.
