Valerie June

Americana/Roots,R&B/Soul,Alternative,Jazz,Live Music in Bar/Club

Valerie June's "organic moonshine roots music" consists of folk, blues and country elements. She plays banjo, guitar, uke and slide to accompany her singing and storytelling. Her most remarkable instrument is her voice, which one short listing in The New Yorker magazine described as "somewhere between the mountains and the swamps." In 2017, New York Times critic Jon Pareles came at it from a different angle: "Her voice is full of endearingly human quirks and flaws," he wrote. "It wavers, it cracks, it scratches, it goes nasal; it’s unvarnished. And it sounds fully alive." She sounds like no one else.
