Rockin’ the Renaissance with Song and Dance

Living History

A participatory program for all ages, with singing, dancing and storytelling to give an experience of how the common folk entertained themselves throughout most of history. Sing songs like “Rose Red,” the Renaissance version of “God Save the Queen,” and “God Bless the Human Elbow.” Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Registration required.

A presentation by Mike VanQuickenborne Thursday, February 15 7 PM, Mid-Columbia Libraries Hosted by Friends of MCL Sports are far more than a game—they have a tremendous impact on our culture, and lay claim to playing an important role in developing moral values like courage, teamwork, and sacrifice. Join philosopher Mike VanQuickenborne for a deeper exploration of our obsession with sports. What makes something a sport? Is competition more helpful or harmful? What makes sports admirable? Is being a fan really a good thing? Should video games be considered a legitimate sport? What are the implications if genetic engineering enables us to create genetically enhanced athletes? Explore the philosophical implications of sports, what they say about our culture, and the ways in which they can reveal our full humanity. Free admission and open to the public

Instrument Petting Zoo with Ted Brown Music

Is your child thinking about learning how to play an instrument in school this coming year? Ted Brown Music will share their knowledge, instruments and enthusiasm for all things musical at the Instrument Petting Zoo. Children may try out multiple band and orchestral instruments and parents will have the opportunity to ask questions.* *Player needs to be strong enough to hold the instrument and have enough lung capacity to make sound (approx. 8-12 years of age or 3rd grade and older).
