Antiquated Technologies Series: Magic Lanterns with John Potter

Photography, History/Science, Talks/Lectures

John Potter will discuss the history of Magic Lanterns and share a variety of slides reflecting Washington state history. John is a Tacoma native and has been a member of the Magic Lantern Society of US and Canada for over 40 years. Magic Lanterns are early image projectors and have been described as 'moving images before moving pictures.' Magic Lantern slides were typically made out of glass and could include painted or photographic images. Potter's slides include images of Tacoma, Seattle, Mount Rainier, and some special images of Lacey courtesy of the Lacey Museum. This program is part of the Antiquated Technologies series and will be co-hosted by the Lacey Museum.
