Penrose Harbor is hosting two educational events – "Sun Safety” and “Cognition”

Health & Wellness/Nutrition

Penrose Harbor, the on-site health center for Heron’s Key in Gig Harbor, is hosting two educational events from 1 to 2 p.m., “Sun Safety” Aug. 29 and “Cognition” Aug. 30 at its facility located at 4340 Borgen Blvd. in Gig Harbor. During the sun safety event, Loretta Axt, Cascade Eye and Skin Centers Marketing Director will provide information about the most common skin cancers, treatment options and how to stay protected from ultraviolet radiation. According to the National Cancer Institute, Washington is among the top 10 states in the nation for invasive melanomas of the skin. Cognitive declines can be a normal part of the aging process. As memory begins to fade, certain measures put in place can keep the mind active. During the cognition event, Penrose Harbor Director of Rehab, Paul Velasquez will discuss different exercises to improve the mind. Both events are free and open to the public. Seating is limited, and reservations are required by calling 253-313-0754.
