Joyner-Turner Jazz Duo

Jazz

"Joyner-Turner Duo - David Deacon-Joyner has been a prominent and legendary jazz pianist and composer in the Pacific Northwest for the past two decades, and passing on the torch as the director of Jazz Studies at Pacific Lutheran University has only amped up his performance regimen. Elliott Turner, a recent graduate from PLU and former student of Joyner’s, has been an emerging name on the local jazz scene as a composer and guitarist, most notably arranging for the University of Puget Sound Jazz orchestra’s performances with Victor Wooten and Joshua Redman. The duo grew out of the Nat King Cole “no drums” piano trio the two performed in with bassist Marc Harper, as well as a couple guest performances and a tour through Spain and Portugal last summer. With a common passion for rich harmony, the Bill Evans/Jim Hall duo albums, and the bluesy history of jazz, it was only natural for these two to perform together, as a duo. No accompaniment. Enjoy the bluesy, melodic interactions of good friends having a good time through music with the Joyner-Turner Duo."
