The Dickies

The Dickies are a legendary L.A.-based band, forming in 1977 and paving the way for a wealth of California-branded punk bands such as Green Day and The Offspring. They were the first punk band on American network TV (the Don Rickles sitcom "C.P.O. Sharkey"), and while they've delivered some memorable originals ("I'm a Chollo," "Manny, Moe & Jack," "You Drive Me Ape (You Big Gorilla)"), they're even better known for their taste in covers (the "Banana Splits" theme, Black Sabbath's "Paranoid," "She" by The Monkees and "Pretty Ballerina" by The Left Banke). If you want to look to the roots of pop-punk, Ramones aside, this is the place. In the 2010s, the band is still touring, led by original guitarist Stan Lee.
